The European Commission has released a fact sheet devoted to strategic projects in the area of critically important raw materials, as part of the implementation of the Critical Raw Materials Act. The document describes projects aimed at developing the extraction, processing, and recycling of strategically significant materials within the European Union and partner countries. The goal of the initiative is to reduce the dependence of European industry on raw material supplies from third countries, particularly such elements as lithium, cobalt, rare earth metals, and other components necessary for the production of batteries, semiconductors, wind turbines, and defense equipment. Strategic projects receive support from the EU in the form of simplified permitting procedures, access to financing, and assistance in attracting investments. The European Commission emphasizes that the resilience of supply chains for critically important raw materials is one of the priorities of the bloc's industrial and economic policy against the backdrop of intensifying global competition for resources and geopolitical risks associated with the concentration of extraction and processing in a limited number of countries, including China. The publication of the fact sheet coincides with the next stage of implementation of the EU's strategy for diversifying raw material sources and strengthening its own production capacity in this field.
