A delegation of official representatives from ASEAN countries undertook a study tour to the United Kingdom, France, and Brussels to examine European experience in cross-border electricity infrastructure. The primary objective of the visit was to exchange knowledge and best practices in interstate energy connectivity, which can be applied in the implementation of the ASEAN Power Grid project. This initiative involves creating a unified regional energy system that brings together Southeast Asian countries and enables cross-border transmission of electricity between ASEAN member states. Such integration is viewed as an important step toward enhancing the region's energy security, optimizing the use of renewable energy sources, and reducing individual countries' dependence on their own limited energy resources. European experience accumulated in the field of integrating national power grids is of particular interest to ASEAN representatives, as European Union countries have been developing mechanisms for interstate energy exchange for decades. During the visit, the parties discussed regulatory issues, technical standards, and investment mechanisms necessary for the successful implementation of such projects. The development of ASEAN Power Grid is viewed as a strategically important direction for sustainable economic growth in the region, promoting more efficient distribution of energy resources and accelerating the transition to low-carbon energy among the member countries of the association.
