Professor Jason Leitch, a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), who previously held the position of national clinical director of Scotland, has been appointed to a new role as Chief of Defence Medical. In this position, he will be responsible for the transformation of the military medicine system. Leitch gained widespread recognition through his work in Scottish healthcare, including during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he regularly gave public briefings on public health matters. His new appointment is linked to a major reform of medical provision for the armed forces, aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of medical care for military personnel. Details of the specific reform measures have not yet been disclosed; however, it is expected that Leitch's experience in clinical leadership and healthcare crisis management will be used to modernize the military medical infrastructure and processes.
