Within the framework of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the United Kingdom, together with other participating States, marked the World Day Against Capital Punishment. The countries issued a joint statement confirming their position on this matter. The World Day Against Capital Punishment is observed annually and aims to draw the international community's attention to the problem of capital punishment in various countries around the world. OSCE participating States traditionally use this date to express solidarity with the movement for the complete abolition of capital punishment. The United Kingdom consistently opposes the application of capital punishment and supports corresponding initiatives on international platforms, including within the OSCE. The joint statement of participating States emphasizes the importance of continuing dialogue on human rights issues within the organization. The OSCE comprises 57 participating States from Europe, Central Asia and North America and deals with security matters, including military-political, economic-environmental and human dimensions, which includes the protection of human rights.
