The 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) took place in Yerevan, where Executive Vice President of the European Commission Theresa Ribeira delivered a speech. The event brought together heads of state and government, as well as representatives of international organizations. Among the conference participants were Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Ribeira's speech was part of discussions on global efforts to preserve biological diversity and combat its loss. The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity is a key international platform where participating countries discuss strategies for protecting the planet's ecosystems, species, and natural resources. The European Union traditionally emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in this area, viewing biodiversity conservation as an integral part of combating climate change and promoting sustainable development. The participation of senior representatives of the European Commission in such forums reflects the priority of the environmental agenda in European foreign policy. It is expected that following COP17, participating countries will adopt decisions aimed at strengthening global commitments to nature protection.
