The US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) conducted a demonstration test of the capabilities of the Rocket Cargo project, aimed at rapid point-to-point cargo delivery using launch vehicles. The test took place during a commercial rideshare launch that lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The Rocket Cargo project is being considered as a promising direction that could dramatically reduce delivery time for military and humanitarian cargo to remote locations worldwide — potentially to as little as an hour, compared to days or weeks with conventional transportation methods. The concept involves using commercial launch vehicles for suborbital flights followed by precise cargo landing at the designated location. The use of a commercial flight for the test reflects growing cooperation between the military and private space companies, which allows reducing testing costs and accelerating development. This approach also demonstrates the Pentagon's interest in utilizing existing commercial space infrastructure rather than creating separate expensive programs. The Rocket Cargo project is being implemented as part of broader US Department of Defense efforts to modernize logistics capabilities and find new ways to rapidly transport material resources during crises, including war zones and disaster areas. The successful completion of the test is viewed as an important step toward practical application of the technology in the future.
