Service members of the 3rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, part of the 9th Engineer Battalion of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force's combat logistics regiment, conducted joint training with units of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. The exercises took place on Okinawa Island as part of bilateral maneuvers involving live-fire drills. During the preparation, American and Japanese military personnel practiced hands-on skills in explosive ordnance disposal, as well as coordinated response to potential threats. The training was part of the larger Keen Sword 2027 exercises—regular joint maneuvers of the US and Japanese armed forces aimed at strengthening cooperation between the allies and enhancing the combat readiness of units from both countries. Okinawa has traditionally served as a key venue for such joint operations due to the significant presence of American military bases there. Such exercises are conducted regularly and are regarded by both sides as an important element in maintaining the defense alliance between the United States and Japan in the Asia-Pacific region.
