Representatives of authorities have issued a warning to retailers selling knives and other sharp and bladed items. Companies have been instructed that the use of images associated with combat and violence in marketing materials is unacceptable, as such advertising may contribute to the romanticization of cold weapons. A separate requirement concerns the physical placement of goods in retail spaces. Dangerous items must not be located in places where customers, including minors, can obtain free and unimpeded access to them without supervision by staff. The initiative is linked to ongoing public concern about the problem of knife-related crimes and the need for more responsible business practices in the sale of potentially dangerous goods. Authorities expect that strengthened oversight of marketing and product display will help reduce risks associated with the illegal acquisition and use of cold weapons. Retailers are recommended to review their internal policies regarding advertising campaigns and the organization of retail space in order to comply with new requirements and avoid reputational and legal consequences.
