The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) and defence company QinetiQ have announced the launch of a new joint programme called Project Safari. The initiative aims to accelerate the testing and evaluation process for military products, which should ultimately lead to faster delivery of equipment and technologies to the front lines. The programme places particular emphasis on expanding access to British testing and evaluation facilities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Previously, such resources were primarily available to large defence contractors, creating barriers to entry for small innovative companies in the military technology market. According to the programme's architects, simplifying access to testing infrastructure will allow small companies to bring their developments to practical application more quickly, bypassing lengthy bureaucratic and technical obstacles. This, in turn, should foster competition in the defence sector and accelerate the implementation of innovative solutions within the armed forces. The partnership between the public and private sectors, represented by the MOD and QinetiQ, is viewed as a step toward modernizing the procurement and testing system for military equipment in the UK. The programme is designed to reduce the time between the development of new technologies and their actual use by military personnel, which is particularly relevant given the rapidly changing geopolitical situation and the growing need for rapid modernization of military capabilities.
