Britain and India held the 16th session of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), during which they reviewed the initial results of the free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries. Representatives of both sides noted positive momentum in trade and economic relations since the agreement came into force. Following the meeting, the parties agreed on a number of measures aimed at enabling businesses from both countries to fully capitalize on the benefits offered by the free trade agreement. This includes reducing trade barriers, simplifying procedures, and creating more favorable conditions for companies operating in British and Indian markets. Additionally, meeting participants discussed plans to deepen bilateral economic cooperation in a broader sense, including expanded collaboration across various economic sectors. The agreements reached at this meeting are viewed as a preparatory stage ahead of the next round of JETCO negotiations, scheduled for 2027. The Joint Economic and Trade Committee serves as a key mechanism for dialogue between London and New Delhi on trade and investment matters, regularly bringing together representatives from business circles and government structures of both countries to assess progress in implementing trade agreements and develop further steps to strengthen the partnership.
