The Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) website, which publishes daily images of space with commentary from professional astronomers, has unveiled a new work — a sonified version of the famous 'Pillars of Creation' image from the Eagle Nebula. Sonification is the process of converting scientific data, in this case visual information from an astronomical image, into sound signals. This approach allows people to perceive the structure and features of cosmic objects not only visually, but also by ear, making astronomical data more accessible, including for people with visual impairments. The Eagle Nebula is a well-known deep space object that gained widespread recognition thanks to the 'Pillars of Creation' photograph taken by a space telescope. These giant pillars of interstellar gas and dust are regions of active star formation and are considered among the most spectacular objects ever captured by astronomical instruments. The APOD project has published similar materials for many years, combining visual images with explanations from astronomy specialists. The sonification of cosmic images has become in recent years a separate direction of scientific popularization, used by various observatories and scientific organizations to present telescope data in an alternative, audio form. The publication of such materials contributes to broader audience engagement in the study of astronomy and demonstrates new ways of interacting with scientific data.
