The European Commission announced a positive assessment of Germany's final, fourth request to receive €6 billion under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). This mechanism is a key element of the NextGenerationEU programme, launched by the European Union to support the economic recovery of member states following the pandemic and to encourage structural reforms. The decision was made by the European Commission in Brussels on 21 October 2026. The approval means that Germany has fulfilled all necessary conditions and milestones provided for in its national recovery and resilience plan, which unlocked the final tranche of funds. The NextGenerationEU programme was created as the EU's response to the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and provides for the allocation of significant financial resources to member states on condition that they undertake reforms and investments in priority areas, including the green transition, digitalisation and strengthening of economic resilience. Germany's receipt of the final payment demonstrates the completion of implementation of its national plan under this initiative. The European Commission's decision is subject to further approval in accordance with established procedures for fund disbursement.
