Britain's Chargé d'Affaires and Deputy Permanent Representative to the OSCE James Ford made a statement condemning Russia's recent massive strikes on Ukrainian territory. According to him, such actions demonstrate Moscow's continued denial of Ukrainian state agency and the right of Ukrainians to independently determine their own fate. In his address, Ford emphasized that genuine dialogue and sustainable conflict resolution are possible only if there is respect for the sovereign equality of states, Ukraine's territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders, and the democratic choice of the Ukrainian people. The British representative noted that these principles are fundamental norms of international law and the foundation of the European security system enshrined in OSCE documents. The statement was made within the framework of the OSCE Permanent Council — a forum where participating states regularly discuss security issues and compliance with international obligations. Britain has repeatedly used this platform to condemn Russian actions in Ukraine and to reaffirm Western allies' support for Kyiv. Ford also pointed out that ongoing strikes on Ukrainian territory, including against civilian infrastructure, contradict Russia's stated readiness for peace negotiations. In his view, such rhetoric in the context of military operations undermines confidence in Moscow's position and casts doubt on the sincerity of its intentions regarding conflict resolution. Britain's representative called on the international community to continue exerting pressure on Russia and to support Ukraine in its efforts to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement came against the backdrop of ongoing diplomatic efforts by various parties to find ways to end the war that began with Russia's invasion in 2022.
