NASA presented a new image obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope, capturing the intermediate spiral galaxy NGC 1827. The image was published on October 16, 2026. The galaxy is located approximately 37 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Columba and is observed nearly edge-on, allowing researchers to discern the characteristic disk-like structure of its stellar population and dust bands. The image was obtained as part of a large-scale survey in which researchers are studying 260 satellite galaxies orbiting around 22 massive host galaxies with structures similar to our Milky Way. Such observations help astronomers better understand the processes of galaxy formation and evolution, as well as the interaction of large spiral galaxies with their smaller satellite companions. Hubble continues to remain one of the key instruments for studying the distant cosmos, providing scientists with detailed images of objects at distances of tens of millions of light-years. Such survey projects make it possible to collect statistically significant data on the structure of galaxies of different types and contribute to understanding the overall picture of the universe's structure.
