At a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Commissioner Serafin delivered a speech devoted to the discussion of the European Union's long-term financial framework for 2028–2034. In his remarks, he recalled that more than a year ago the European Commission presented a proposal for the next long-term financial framework (MFF), which, according to him, reflects the aspiration to create a strong and resilient Europe. Serafin noted that the proposed budget is intended to respond to the challenges facing the European Union, including the need to strengthen economic competitiveness, ensure security, and support the green and digital transitions. The commissioner stressed the importance of joint work with the European Parliament and member states to adopt an ambitious and balanced budget plan. Minister Byrne, representing the country holding the EU Council presidency, also participated in the debate. The discussion of the long-term financial framework for 2028–2034 continues to be one of the key topics on the European political agenda, as the final agreement will determine the financing of key EU policy areas for the coming decade—from agriculture and regional policy to defense and external relations. The negotiations on the MFF are expected to continue for some time, given the need to align the positions of all EU institutions and member states.
