Britain's senior military adviser, Colonel Jody Rimmer, made a statement to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in which he condemned attacks on civilian shipping in the Black Sea. According to him, the ongoing war of Russia against Ukraine creates a threat not only to regional stability, but also to the broader principles of maritime security and freedom of navigation. The British representative emphasized that such actions undermine international law and create danger for merchant vessels, crews, and coastal states that depend on stable shipping in the Black Sea waters. He pointed out that the consequences of the conflict extend beyond the immediate combat zone, affecting global supply chains and the economic security of countries that use Black Sea ports for the export and import of goods. The statement was made in the context of ongoing discussions at the OSCE on measures to protect civilian infrastructure and shipping amid the continuing armed conflict. Britain once again called on the international community to consolidate efforts to ensure the safety of maritime routes and to hold accountable those parties that violate the norms of international maritime law.
